Ontario Provincial Nominee Program

Ontario is one of the most popular desitination for immigrants who are coming to Canada. Nearly 40 percent of all the immigrants coming to canada settle in Ontario. Ontario is contributing most in the Canada’s economy and is having the highest GDP among all the provinces. People are choosing ontario becaus of the job opportunities, high income and the diversity of population. Ontrario has its own provincial nominee program cal the Ontario Immigration Nominee Program under which the province is nominating individuals based on their skills, international experience, Education, and on the basis of their adaptability.

Ontario has 4 major categories for immigration

1. Human Capital Category
2. Masters and PhD category
3. Employer job offer
4. Business investor program

1. Human Capital Stream

It is for those who have certain skills, french language workers, Tradespersons and international graduates who are graduated from the Ontario University of College. Job offer is exempted in this Category.

The human capital Category is divided into two subcategories. One is the Ontario Express Entry program which is aligned with the express entry and the other is the Ontario provincial nominee program.

The following programs fall under the Human capital category:

Human Capital priority: This category includes the Federal skilled workers program and Canadian Experience Class
Foreign workers who have the required skills, work experience, language ability, and education have the opportunity to live and work in Ontario.

Federal Skilled Worker Program

Under the Federal skilled workers program, you must have:

– At least one year of continuous, full time work experience in the TEER category 0,1,2 or 3 of the National Occupational Classification.
– Your work experience must be gained in the last 5 years from the date you submitted your application.
– It must be your primary occupation identified in the Express Entry profile.

** If you are using self employment. you need to prove the employment documents that is independently verifiable from the third party.

Canadian Experience Class

Under the Canadian Experience Class you must have atleast 1 year of Full time continuous work expericne in Canada in the TEER category 0,1,2 or 3.

Your Experience must be:

1. Obtained within the last 3 years from the date of submitting your application to the OINP.
2. This experience can be in one or more occupations identified in the Express Entry.
3. You must have legal status in Canada.

Your work experience must be added up to one year – it does not need to be continuous one year.

Education:

You must have a Canadian Education, bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or phd or its equivalent education from any country.
If you have your studies outside Canada, you need to obtain an Education Credential Assessment that proves that your education is equivalent to a Canadian Credential.

Language:

To meet the language requirements for Canadian immigration, you’ll need to demonstrate proficiency in English or French at the CLB level 7 or higher by taking an approved language test. Here’s what you need to know:

Settlement funds

You must have enough funds to support yourself and your family members who are dependent on you.

Intention to live in Ontario

You must intend to live in Ontario after you’re granted permanent residence. We determine this by examining your ties to Ontario, which can include things like:

  • working or have worked in Ontario
  • getting job offers or applying/ interviewing for jobs
  • studying
  • volunteering
  • leasing or owning property
  • visiting
  • having professional networks and affiliations, family ties and personal relationships

Skilled Trades Stream

Ontario Express Entry skilled trade Stream is an immigration stream under which foreign nationals who have experience in eligible skilled trades have the opportunity to apply for permanent residency in Ontario.

Work Experience:

You must have:

At least one year of cumulative paid full-time work experience in the major groups 72, 73, 82, 83, 93 or minor groups 6320 of the National Occupational Classification.

Your work experience must have been:
– Obtained in the last 2 years from the date of Submitting your application
– you can have experience in one or more occupations in your Express Entry profile.
– You must be legally allowed to work in Canada.
– the work can be added up to one year

Valid Certificate or Licence

If you are claiming experience in any of the trades, you must show the license or certificate at the time you are applying for your PR.

You must reside in Ontario and are legally allowed to live in Canada.

Language:

You must understand, Read, Listen and speak English or French and have a Canadian Language Benchmark of 5 or higher

Settlement funds:

You must have enough funds to support you and your dependents. Note that a family member includes your spouse, common law partner and children under the age of 22, including their children.

Intention to live in Ontario

You must intend to live in Ontario after you’re granted permanent residence.

Masters and PhD Category

The Master’s Graduates Stream and PhD Graduates Stream provide pathways for international students in Ontario to obtain permanent residence without needing a job offer. Here are the key eligibility criteria for each stream:

Masters Graduates Stream:

Education Requirement: Must have graduated from a Master’s degree program at an eligible institution in Ontario, with the program being at least one year of full-time study.

– Language Proficiency: Must have achieved a minimum language proficiency level of CLB/NCLC 7 or higher in either English or French.

– Residency: Must have legally resided in Ontario for at least one year within the last two years.

– Settlement Funds: Must demonstrate sufficient settlement funds to support oneself and any dependents.

– Intent to Live and Work in Ontario: Must intend to live and work in Ontario after obtaining permanent residence.

– Legal Status: Must have legal status in Ontario or abroad at the time of application.

– Application Timeline: The application must be submitted within two years of completing the requirements to graduate from the master’s degree program.

PhD Graduates Stream:

– Education Requirement: Must have graduated from a PhD degree program at an eligible institution in Ontario, with the program being at least two years of full-time study.

– Residency: Must have legally resided in Ontario for at least one year within the last two years.

– Settlement Funds: Must demonstrate sufficient settlement funds to support oneself and any dependents.

– Intent to Live and Work in Ontario: Must intend to live and work in Ontario after obtaining permanent residence.

– Application Timeline: The application must be submitted within two years of completing the requirements to graduate from the PhD degree program.

Both streams prioritize candidates who have a strong connection to Ontario through their studies and residency, and who intend to contribute to the province’s economy and community. Meeting these eligibility criteria is essential for international students wishing to apply for permanent residence through either the Master’s Graduates Stream or the PhD Graduates Stream in Ontario.

OINP Employer Job Offer

The Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream enables foreign workers with a job offer in a skilled occupation to apply for permanent residency in Ontario.

To qualify, your job offer must fall under skill levels categorized as TEER (Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities) categories 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification (NOC). This stream welcomes foreign workers currently residing in Canada as well as those applying from outside of the country.

Job offer requirements:

Full-time and Permanent

The job offer must be a full-time and permanent Position. The job offer must be of 1560 hours a year and a minimum of 30 hours of paid work/week.
The job must have no end date. It should not be seasonal or on a contract basis.

Eligible Occupation:

The job offer must be in a skilled occupation and in a TEER category 0,1,2 or 3 of the national Occupation Classification.

Median Wage:

The wage rate must be higher than the median wage for that occupation.
The position must be urgent to the employer
The work you do must be primarily in Ontario.
